I am Moira Kennedy, MD a psychiatrist who treats children, adolescents and adults in New York City. I approach each patient’s concerns with thoughtfulness, thoroughness and a collaborative spirit. Through a comprehensive evaluation I seek to understand the unique challenges and difficulties a patient faces so that effective treatment can be discussed and implemented. Many studies have shown that the most important aspect of treatment is the therapeutic relationship, the degree to which a patient feels listened to and understood. I consider this alliance to be the foundation and the beginning of the work we do together. Working collaboratively, I value the expertise each patient has regarding their particular circumstances and the role this expertise plays in treatment. This is especially true when parents are worried about a child. The parent often knows the particular struggles a child is facing, but may be unclear as to the best way to proceed. By working together, treatment choices can be discussed and one chosen that is based on the current evidence that guides treatment.
